Maury Sterling was born on September 1, 1971, in Mill Valley, California. He developed a passion for acting at the age of seven by participating in local theater productions.

After graduating from San Francisco University High School, he attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he earned a degree in Theater.
