Early Life and Education
Maziyar Jobrani was born on 26 February 1972 in Tehran, Iran, to parents referred to as Mr. and Mrs. Jobrani.
He has an older sister, Mariam, two younger brothers, Kashi, Joey. At the age of six, during the Iranian Revolution, he, his family relocated to the United States, settled in Tiburon, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area.
He attended Redwood High School in Larkspur. Jobrani earned a B.A. in political science with a minor in Italian from the University of California, Berkeley, began a Ph.D. program in political science at UCLA before leaving to pursue acting, comedy. He is of Iranian origin, his religion is Islam.
Career
Maz Jobrani began performing stand-up, improvisational comedy in the 1990s while working in advertising.
He gained early acting roles in films such as Dragonfly (2002), Friday After Next (2002), The Interpreter (2005).
His breakthrough in comedy came as a founding member of the Axis of Evil comedy group alongside Ahmed Ahmed, Aron Kader; their 2007 Comedy Central special, subsequent international tour brought widespread attention for tackling Middle Eastern stereotypes with humor.
He released multiple stand-up specials, including Brown & Friendly, I Come in Peace, I’m Not a Terrorist, But I’ve Played One on TV, the Netflix special Immigrant (filmed at the Kennedy Center), Pandemic Warrior, The Birds & The Bees.
On television he appeared in series such as Curb Your Enthusiasm, Grey’s Anatomy, Shameless, Better Off Ted, starred as Fawz on the CBS sitcom Superior Donuts (2017–2018).
