Early Life and Education

Rotimi, now 36, was born on November 30, 1988, in Maplewood, New Jersey. He hails from a Nigerian family with Yoruba roots. He was a varsity basketball team and choir member at Columbia High School.

Afterward, he pursued his education at Northwestern University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Communication with a minor in Business in 2010.

Personal Life

On November 25, 2019, Rotimi shared a picture of himself and Tanzanian vocalist Vanessa Mdee inside an elevator. Vanessa further affirmed their relationship by posting the same image with a distinct caption.

Rotimi recounted their initial encounter at a gathering where they felt an immediate connection. At the same time, Vanessa expressed in an interview that she sensed a strong bond just two days after meeting him.

In an Instagram video, Rotimi and Vanessa disclosed that they had tattoos of each other’s names: her name, Hau, inked on his right wrist, and his name, Rotimi, etched on her chest. Additionally, they both sport matching tattoos of the number 1045 on their wrists.

In December 2020, Rotimi proposed to Vanessa, marking a significant milestone in their relationship. Career

During his first attempt at acting, Rotimi successfully auditioned for the role of drug dealer Darius Morrison on the show Boss. He also appeared in three episodes of A.B.C.’s Betrayal. Rotimi’s debut on the big screen was in the film Black Nativity (2013).

He later starred in Imperial Dreams at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, which won “Best of NEXT.” He also appeared in the popular film Divergent (2014) and acted in Deuces alongside Lance Gross and Larenz Tate in 2016.

Rotimi became a regular cast member on Starz’s TV series Power, playing the role of Andre Coleman, and also had a recurring role on Battle Creek as Danny. As a contemporary R&B artist, Rotimi released two digital mixtapes titled The Resume and While You Wait.
