Saiju Kurup was born on March 12, 1979, in Cherthala, Alappuzha, Kerala, to N. Govinda Kurup and Sobhana Kurup. He grew up with his elder sister Saira Kurup and spent much of his childhood in Nagpur, Maharashtra, where his father was posted.
Saiju Kurup attended St. Joseph’s Convent High School in Kamptee and St. Francis De’Sales High School in Nagpur before earning a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining Engineering from Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management, Nagpur.

Saiju Kurup entered the entertainment industry unexpectedly after completing his engineering education and working in sales, including a position with Airtel in Thiruvananthapuram.
In 2004, he met singer M. G. Sreekumar while handling a professional assignment, and Sreekumar encouraged him to audition for a film.
Kurup subsequently auditioned for director Hariharan’s Mayookham, earning the lead role of Unni Kesavan and making his film debut in 2005.
