Shel Rasten was born on March 30, 1981, in Los Angeles, California, United States, to Kjell Rasten, a Swedish-born television producer, and María del Rosario Mercedes Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza, the Spanish-American actress and musician known worldwide as Charo.
As the couple’s only child, he has no siblings.
In 1985, his family relocated to the north shore of Kauai, Hawaii, where he was raised swimming and fishing in the waters of the Na Pali Coast.
He later attended Punahou School in Honolulu.
