Sobhan Babu began his film journey with Bhakta Potana (1966) in a minor role, but his first substantial hit came with Sthree Janma (1967). The real turning point arrived with Kalyana Mandapam (1971), where his romantic pairing with Vanisri struck gold.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he delivered one blockbuster after another—Jeevana Jyothi, Muthyala Muggu, Devadasu, and Premabhishekam—the last of which ran for over 500 days in theatres.

He worked consistently with top directors like K. Viswanath and Bapu, often portraying idealistic lovers or family men. Unlike many of his peers, he avoided overtly political roles, focusing instead on pure entertainment.

His retirement came in the early 1990s after Peddarikam (1992). Even after stepping away, his films remained staples on television, and his legacy as a romantic icon never faded. He passed away on 20 March 2008 in Chennai due to a heart attack.
