Angel Locsin is a Filipina film and television actress, model, and fashion designer. She rose to prominence for her roles as Alwina in ‘Mulawin,’ a fantasy-themed television series, and as the superheroine Darna in the same series.

She began her career as an artist for the GMA Network but eventually moved to ABS-CBN. Her first major role with the network was as Lyka in the television series ‘Lobo,’ for which she received an International Emmy nomination for best performance.

She won the Box-Office Entertainment Award for Film Actress of the Year and the Star Award for Movies for Movie Actress of the Year for her roles in the hit films ‘In The Name Of Love’ and ‘One More Try,’ respectively.

Early Life

Angelica Locsin Colmenares was born to Angelo and Emma Colmenares on April 23, 1985, in Santa Maria, Bulacan.

Locsin’s father was a swimmer who won a bronze medal in the 4200-meter freestyle relay for the Philippine team at the 1954 Asian Games in Manila.

Ella and Angelo are her two younger siblings. Locsin hesitates to disclose her family history publicly; she was alienated from her mother until 2007 and had maternal ties to an aristocratic family in Marawi, Lanao del Sur.

Locsin and her siblings were reared by their father, who was diagnosed with total blindness later in life. Locsin has expressed regret for not being able to financially support her father’s care at the start of his illness.

She has a close relationship with her father and considers him “instrumental” in her success.

In 2014, she began dating Luis Manzano. They did, however, divorce in 2016. Locsin appears to be single presently.

Career

Angel Locsin was found by a talent scout in a shopping mall and requested to test for various advertisements as part of ABS-CBN’s Star Circle Batch 9.

She could only accept a contract after passing the auditions since her father was opposed.

She later became a contract star of the GMA Artist Center and was featured in the second season of the teen-oriented series, ‘Click,’ and in ‘Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw.’ She worked with GMA until early 2007.

She began starring as Alwina in ‘Mulawin,’ a fantasy-themed TV series that was a major success and got high ratings until its conclusion in March 2005.

She was given the role of Darna in a second fantasy-themed TV series with the same name in 2005 due to the success of “Mulawin.” Mulawin’s ratings records were surpassed by this show, which likewise achieved excellent ratings.

In September 2006, Locsin played the role of Sabina in the fantasy-themed television program “Majika.” Then, in 2007, she received a part in “Asian Treasures,” the first Filipino TV series that was filmed overseas. Both programs were widely praised.

She starred in a cameo in the 2003 movie “Mano Po 2” and in the 2004 comedies “Singles” and “Kuya,” both of which were aimed at teenagers.

The drama movie “Mano Po III: My Love” and the scary movie “Sigaw” included her. Both movies were entered at the 2004 Metro Manila Film Festival.

She reprised her role as Alwina in the film adaptation of the TV series “Mulawin” in 2005, which was also an entry in the Metro Manila Film Festival. She also appeared in the love story “Let the Love Begin.”
