Early life and education
Gema Zamprogna was born on May 24, 1976, in Hamilton, Ontario, to professional dancers Lou Zamprogna and Pauline Zamprogna. Her father was a dancer, choreographer, actor, and dance-school operator, while her mother was also involved in dance education.
Gema grew up alongside her younger twin siblings, Amanda Zamprogna and Dominic Zamprogna, both of whom later pursued acting careers. Her family background includes Italian ancestry on her father’s side and English ancestry on her mother’s side.
She attended Hillfield Strathallan College, where she received an arts scholarship. Alongside her academic studies, she trained in dance and performed from a young age. She later attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama. She also became one of the founding members of Toronto’s Theatrefront drama group.

Gema Zamprogna began working professionally as a child, appearing in television productions before landing the role of Felicity King on Road to Avonlea. The series became her defining acting credit, and she later reprised the character in Happy Christmas, Miss King.
She subsequently appeared in By Way of the Stars, Pirates of Silicon Valley, Jewel, Johnny, Avenging Angelo, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, ReGenesis, and Murdoch Mysteries. Alongside acting, she developed a career in dance and Pilates, teaching acting and Pilates classes and working as a dance soloist. She established Studio Technique Pilates and later Grimsby Pilates, while also teaching and choreographing musical productions.
