Early Life and Education

Inka Bause (57 years old) was born on 21 November 1968 in Leipzig, the third daughter of composer Arndt Bause and his wife Angret. In the mid-1970s, the family relocated to the Berlin-Biesdorf district.

From a young age she displayed musical talent. She attended Musikschule Friedrichshain, where she played violin.

After completing her school-level training (around 1983), she joined the Stamitz Orchestra and also took piano and vocal lessons. She then studied singing formally at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin (Hanns Eisler Academy of Music) and graduated with high marks.

Personal Life

In June 1996, she married composer and singer Hendrik Bruch. Their daughter was born in September 1996. The marriage ended in divorce in 2005. Her ex-husband, Hendrik Bruch, died by suicide in 2016.

Since the divorce, no subsequent marriages is known. From 2009 to 2011 she was in a relationship with politician Stefan Gebhardt.

Career

Inka Bause first televised appearance was in 1984 (a New Year’s Eve broadcast) with the song Spielverderber. She was named “Up-and-Coming Singer of the Year” by the youth magazine Neues Leben in 1985, 1986, and 1987. She won the Silver Bong (a top prize on the East German music TV show Bong) repeatedly — in fact, she is the only artist to have won it five times in a row.

Her debut album Inka was released in 1987. In 1988, she began branching into television presenting: she hosted Talentebude (a children’s talent show) until 1991, often together with her future husband Hendrik Bruch. She also toured with shows like Super Pop ’88 and Traumpassagiere.

Her second album Schritte came in 1989; the single Aber Du was performed on the ZDF-Hitparade in 1990, making her the first East German singer to reach third place in that show. She continued releasing albums Ich geh’ durch die Nacht (1991) and Ein Zug von Irgendwo (1992).

She also continued television appearances (e.g. Weihnachten bei uns) and radio work. In 1996 she acted in the television film Der Millionär. In 1998, she played the lead role in Panik in der Blumenstadt.

In 1998 she won first place in the Deutsche Schlager-Festspiele with Ich will nur Dich. During this period, she signed a record contract with producer Jack White around 2000.

In 2001, her single Florian (from Sei Happy) became a summer hit, and she appeared on over 20 television shows. In June 2003, her song Mein Herz bleibt bei Dir won the MDR Hitsommernacht. Around that time, her father passed away (February 2003), leading her to cancel some tour dates.

In 2004–2005, she hosted Hüttenzauber on ZDF, and the last broadcasts of ZDF’s Sunday concerts. She also began hosting Bauer sucht Frau on RTL from 2005 onward, which became her signature show.

Between 2006 and 2009 she hosted Unser neues Zuhause. She also hosted other shows such as Die 100.000 Euro Show, Die singende Firma, Die Farm, Jugendliebe, Drei Wünsche für…, Familien-Duell, among others. In acting, from 2008 to 2012 she appeared in recurring roles in Das Traumschiff and Kreuzfahrt ins Glück.

Musically, after a long break she released Mit offenen Armen in 2018 and Lebenslieder in 2020 (with accompanying national tour). She founded her own record label and co-produced the albums. She also produced music videos such as So ging noch nie die Sonne auf (shot in Mallorca) and Mein Herz (shot at Zirkus Mondeo in Berlin).
