Irina Gorovaia was born on June 13, 1989, in Leningrad, Soviet Union, to a Russian Jewish mother and a Ukrainian father. She is of Russian-Ukrainian heritage and moved to Brooklyn, New York, during childhood.
She trained in ballet at the School of American Ballet and studied drama at LaGuardia High School for the Arts.
She later attended CUNY Hunter College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. She performed in The Nutcracker with the New York City Ballet in 2000.
