Johanna San Miguel Dammert was born on 14 November 1967 in the upscale Miraflores district of Lima, Peru, to a prominent family. Her father, José San Miguel Mejía, was a well-known lawyer and politician, and her mother, Silvia María Dammert Herrera, came from one of Peru’s traditional families.
She studied at the exclusive all-girls school Colegio Villa María and later trained in acting at Club de Teatro de Lima and with renowned directors Roberto Ángeles and Alberto Ísola. Ethnically of Spanish-Peruvian descent, she was raised Roman Catholic in a conservative upper-middle-class environment.
Career
Johanna San Miguel started professionally in theater while still a teenager and gained national fame in the 1990s as Queca, the explosive redheaded matriarch in the groundbreaking comedy troupe and television series Pataclaun (1997–1999).
The show became a cultural phenomenon and is still considered Peru’s most beloved comedy program. After Pataclaun ended, she starred in the spin-off series La gran sangre and continued working in theater, telenovelas, and comedy specials.
