Maarja Johanna Mägi was born on 24 March 1997 in Tartu, Estonia. She grew up in an academic, book-loving family and began performing in school plays and at the Vanemuine youth theatre studio at age eight.

After graduating from Tartu Miina Härma Gümnaasium, she was accepted into the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EMTA) in Tallinn, completing a Bachelor’s degree in Acting in 2019 under director Elmo Nüganen (course XXIX).
