Early life and education

Madhavi, known by her birth name Kanaka Vijayalakshmi, was born on August 14, 1958, in Eluru, a city in Andhra Pradesh, India. She was raised by her parents, Sasirekha and Govindaswamy. 

Throughout her childhood, she had the privilege of growing up with a sister named Keerthi Kumari and a brother named Dhananjay. Madhavi’s passion for dance ignited at a young age as she began learning Bharat Natyam from Uma Maheswari and folk dance from Bhatt. 

Her dedication and talent led her to showcase her skills in over a thousand mesmerizing dance performances. During her education, she had the opportunity to attend Stanley Girls High School located in Hyderabad, specifically the Abids branch.

Career

When she was just a teenager, director Dasari Narayana Rao allowed her to shine in the Telugu film Thoorupu Padamara, which was a massive success. This marked the beginning of her successful career in the film industry. 

She collaborated with famous Telugu actor Chiranjeevi in several films, starting with their first movie, Intlo Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya, released in 1982. Their on-screen chemistry and talent captivated audiences and further solidified her status as a talented actress.

After her successful collaboration with Chiranjeevi in the blockbuster film Khaidi, she had the opportunity to work with him again in Big Boss, marking her last Telugu movie. Following this, renowned filmmaker K. Balachander cast her in a supporting role in his Telugu film Maro Charitra in 1978. 

Her performance was so impressive that she was chosen to reprise the same role in its 1981 Hindi remake, Ek Duuje Ke Liye. This Hindi version went on to become the highest-grossing film of the year 1981.

Personal Life

Madhavi’s union with Ralph Sharma came about because of her relationship with Swami Rama, a spiritual leader and mentor to Ralph. Having encountered Swami Rama at the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy when he was 32, Ralph developed a connection with him. 

Subsequently, in 1995, Madhavi also had the opportunity to meet Swami Rama. Eventually, their association led to their marriage on February 14, 1996. Madhavi and Ralph reside in New Jersey, along with their three daughters.

Madhavi expressed her happiness and fulfillment in an interview in 2006, stating that she is happily married and finds joy as a wife and mother of three children named Evelyn Sharma. Priscilla Sharma and Tiffany Sharma Additionally, she mentioned being satisfied with her choice to leave the acting industry and emphasized that she doesn’t feel any longing for it.
