Early life and education

Manisha Koirala, a renowned actress, was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, on August 16, 1970. She hails from a family with a significant political background. She was raised by her parents, Prakash Koirala and Sushma Koirala. 

Her grandfather, Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, served as the Prime Minister of Nepal in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Additionally, two of her great-uncles, Girija Prasad Koirala and Matrika Prasad Koirala, also held the prestigious position of Prime Minister in Nepal. She grew up with one sibling, Siddhartha Koirala.

During her formative years, Koirala resided in India, specifically Varanasi, where she spent significant time at her maternal grandmother’s residence.  

Manisha Koirala, a renowned actress, possesses an impressive educational background. She holds a diploma in filmmaking from the prestigious New York University, showcasing her dedication and passion for the cinematic arts. 

Career

 After starting her career with the film Pheri Bhetaula in 1989, she appeared in the Hindi drama Saudagar in 1991. Despite facing several commercial failures, she later established herself as a prominent actress by starring in romantic dramas such as 1942: A Love Story (1994) and the Tamil-language Bombay (1995). 

Her success continued with several commercially successful films like Agni Sakshi (1996), Indian (1996), Gupt: The Hidden Truth (1997), Kachche Dhaage (1999), Mudhalvan (1999), Company (2002), and Ek Chhotisi Love Story (2002). 

In 2001, Koirala sought treatment in New York City before returning to India four years later. Despite her health challenges, she has maintained a presence in the film industry, although she now selects projects more carefully. 

Additionally, Koirala has actively engaged in social work, dedicating her efforts to advancing women’s rights, combating violence towards women, and fighting against the trafficking of Nepali girls for prostitution.

Personal Life

After tying the knot with Samrat Dahal, a successful businessman from Nepal, Koirala’s marriage lasted from 2010 to 2012. Unfortunately 2012, her life took an unexpected turn when she received the devastating news of being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. 

However, through her unwavering determination and the implementation of rigorous medical treatment, she was able to triumph over this formidable disease and enter a state of remission.

During a recent interview, Koirala expressed her satisfaction with the current state of her life and confidently stated that she does not desire to enter into matrimony once more. Additionally, she mentioned that while she is open to embracing motherhood, she is in no rush to pursue it.
