Maria Simon was born on February 6, 1976, in Leipzig, East Germany. She was born to Mr Maria and Olga Maria, a Russian-Jewish mother from Kazakhstan. Her ethnicity is German and Russian-Jewish. She grew up alongside her older sister Susanna Simon, as well as Dalena Simon and Alyssa Simon. Her religion is Christianity.
She completed her secondary education in New York before returning to Germany. She subsequently studied acting at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin, graduating with a diploma in 1999.
Career
Maria Simon began her screen career in 1999 when she played Lea Hauser in Zornige Küsse. Her performance earned her the Best Actress prize at the Moscow International Film Festival in 2000. Her breakthrough followed in 2003 through Good Bye, Lenin! and Lichter, which brought her wider international attention.
She subsequently appeared in numerous German films and television productions, including Nichts als Gespenster, Kongo, Silvia S. – Blinde Wut, Ein verborgenes Leben, and Aufbruch ins Ungewisse.
From 2011, she portrayed police investigator Olga Lenski in Polizeiruf 110, leaving the long-running crime series in 2019. Simon has also maintained a theatre career and worked as a producer.
