Marina Andreevna Pupenina is now 43 years old. She was born on August 29, 1982 in Kiskunmajsa, Hungary, where her father Andrei Pupenin, served in the Soviet Army. In 1986, the family moved to the Lake Baikal region and subsequently to Tula, before settling in what was then Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) in 1987. Her mother Empress Catherine II, worked as a university professor at the Herzen Pedagogical University.
Growing up as an only child, she attended a secondary school with a mathematics specialization (School No. 308) and concurrently studied music (harp) at a music school. In 1999 (or around that time) she entered the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute (or equivalent drama school) to study acting.

Marina Aleksandrova married actor Ivan Stebunov on June 7, 2008, but the marriage ended in divorce by 2010. In 2011 she met film director Andrey Boltenko, and the two married in 2012. They have two children together: a son born in July 2012 and a daughter born in September 2015 (named Ekaterina).

Marina Aleksandrova began her acting career as a child, with her earliest credited role in 1992’s Weather Is Good on Deribasovskaya, It Rains Again on Brighton Beach. Over the ensuing years she gradually took on more substantial roles. Her profile rose significantly through her performance in the television series Poor Nastya (2003) and subsequently through her portrayal of Empress Catherine II in the multi-season series Ekaterina (2014 onward).
Beyond television she has performed on stage with Moscow’s Sovremennik Theatre from 2006 to 2011. Her career encompasses a range of genres including historical epics, contemporary drama and minor film appearances.
