Öykü Gürman was born on 4 August 1982 in Arnavutköy, Istanbul, to parents Musa Gürman and Serap Gürman.
She has a twin brother, Berk Gürman, and another sibling, Doğa Gürman. Originally from the Of district of Trabzon, she began music education early, taking private violin lessons.
She attended Private Efdal Kindergarten and Primary School, then İstek Foundation Acıbadem High School, and graduated from Pera Fine Arts High School in 2001.
She then studied violin and singing at the Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory. She is Turkish and Muslim.
Career
Öykü Gürman rose to prominence in 2007 when she and her twin brother Berk formed the duo Öykü ve Berk and uploaded a performance of the folk song “Evlerinin Önü Boyalı Direk” to YouTube, which attracted millions of views.
The pair released the albums Kısmet (2007) and İki Arada (2009), blending traditional türkü with flamenco and Mediterranean influences, and hosted the music and talk programme Boyalı Direk on TRT 1. The duo ended in 2010 as both pursued solo paths.
As a solo artist, she released albums including Bir Başka (2011) and Rüya Bitti (2015), along with singles such as “Nem Alacak Felek Benim” and “Düşün Beni.” She has collaborated with artists including Yavuz Bingöl and continued performing and recording.
Alongside her music career, she moved into acting, making her screen debut in the 2014 film Panzehir and starring as Ceylan in the series Urfalıyım Ezelden.
Her breakthrough acting role came as Asiye Kaleli in the popular drama Sen Anlat Karadeniz (2018–2019), for which she also contributed music.
