Rachel Zawadi Luttrell was born on January 19, 1971, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. When she was five years old, her family immigrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where she was raised.
Coming from a highly musical family, she studied classical ballet at the Russian Academy of Classical Ballet School, piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and received soprano vocal training from her father, a former member of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.
She later attended Sheridan College before studying English literature at the University of Toronto, and also trained at the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, England.
Career
Rachel Luttrell began her professional career in musical theatre, appearing in the Canadian productions of Miss Saigon and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
After relocating to Los Angeles, she landed guest roles in television series including Street Legal, ER, Charmed, Touched by an Angel, and The Feast of All Saints.
