Sarah Shahi is an American actress and former model born Aahoo Jahansouzshahi on January 10, 1980.

She portrayed Carmen in The L Word in 2005, Kate Reed in the courtroom drama Fairly Courtroom on USA Network from 2011–2012, and Sameen Shaw in Person of Interest on CBS from 2012–2016.

She also had a supporting part in Alias and Life as Detective Dani Reese. She appeared in the television show Reverie in 2018.

In 2019, she appeared in seven episodes of The Rookie as love interest Jessica Russo and had a recurring role on Showtime’s City on a Hill.

Early Life

January 10 1980, saw the birth of Sarah Shahi in Euless, Texas, to parents Abbas Jahansouz Shahi and Mah Monir Soroush Azar.

While her mother was Iranian-Spanish and was born in Spain, her father was Iranian. Sarah has an elder sister named Samantha and a younger brother named Cyrus.

Sarah was named Aahoo, which translates to ‘gazelle’ in Persian. She changed her name to Sarah after hearing a song in second grade.

She changed her name on purpose after being mocked by her pals. When Sarag was ten years old, her parents divorced.

She received her primary education at Trinity High School before attending Southern Methodist University, where she majored in English and Theatre. She excelled in sports while in school.

She was bitten by the modelling bug while in school. When she was eight, her parents took her to beauty pageants. She went on to win the Miss Fort Worth pageant in 1997.

Career

Sarah Shahi wanted to be an actress and joined the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders in 1999. She was on the cover of the squad’s calendar the following year.

As an extra in “Dr. T and the Women,” she met director Robert Altman in Texas, who advised her to relocate to Hollywood.

She then relocated to Los Angeles, where she appeared in several television shows, including ‘City Guys,‘Spin City,’ ‘Boston Public,’ ‘Off Centre,’ and others.

Between 2001 and 2002, she appeared as Jenny in seven episodes of the TV show “Alias”. She also appeared in popular comedies such as “Dawson’s Creek,” “Reba,” “ER,” “Frasier,” “Century City,” and “Supernatural.”

Her cinematic career took off when she landed her first credited role as Erica in ‘Old School’ in 2003. She appeared in several films, including ‘A Lot Like Love,’ ‘For Your Consideration,’ ‘Rush Hour 3’, ‘Shades of Ray,’ ‘Crossing Over,’ ‘AmericanEast,‘ and others.

She landed the part of DJ Carmen de la Pica Morales in ‘The L Word’ in 2005. She performed her character until 2007, after signing a two-year deal.

Meanwhile, she appeared in various television shows, including ‘Sleeper Cell,’ ‘The Sopranos,’ and ‘Kennedy and Heidi.’

The lead role in the NBC television series “Life” with Damian Lewis gave Sarah Shahi her big break. She portrayed homicide detective Dani Reese in the film. The show aired for two seasons before being cancelled.

She landed the main role in the USA Network pilot ‘Facing Kate,’ eventually renamed ‘Fairly Legal,’ in 2009. The show follows the life of Kate, a legal mediator who is fed up with the court system’s inefficiency and injustice.



She appeared as the romantic interest of Lt. Kelly Severide on the NBC drama ‘Chicago Fire’ in 2012. She later appeared in ‘Person of Interest‘ as Sameen Shaw.

While she appeared as a visitor in season 2, she became a regular in season 3. In addition to this, she made cameos in several well-known TV shows, including “Relevance,” “Ray Donovan,” and “Pitch.” Sarah Shahi has previously appeared in the films Static’ and ‘Bullet to Head’.

After returning from maternity leave, she was cast as renowned detective Nancy Drew in a planned TV series based on the same-named book series. However, the show was never broadcast.

At the same time, she continued to appear on ‘Person of Interest’ as Sameen Shaw until the show ended in June 2016.

Sarah Shahi is now starring in ‘Michael Bolton’s Big, Sexy Valentine’s Day Special’ and the NBC television series ‘Reverie’.

Personal Life

On February 7, 2009, Sarah Shahi wed the actor Steve Howey in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had been dating for six years and formally engaged for around twenty months.

The couple’s first child, William Wolf Howey, was born in 2009. She gave birth to twins, daughter Violet and son Knox Blue, in March 2015.
