Tami Stronach was born on July 31, 1972, in Tehran, Iran, to archaeologists David Stronach and Ruth Vaadia.

Following the Iranian Revolution, her family relocated to Israel, then the United Kingdom, before settling in Berkeley, California, where her father joined the University of California, Berkeley.
