Early Life

Y. Vijaya was born February 8, 1957, in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, and attended local schools. She was raised in the Andhra Pradesh city of Kadapa. Yenigandla Jnanayya, her father, is a district manager for a cooperative marketing society. Balamma, her mother, was a stay-at-home mom. Her ancestors were from the Guntur district. There are 5 sisters and 4 brothers among Vijaya’s 9 siblings. She comes in at number five. T.V. actor Y. Raja is one of her brothers. She completed her eighth-grade year of study at the Government Girls High School in Kadapa. She had a passion for Hindi and science. When she was just three years old, her parents noticed that she was dancing to radio music.

Additionally, she has performed on stage shows at her school. They decided to teach her to dance. After she completed the eighth grade, her parents took her to the renowned dance teacher Vempati China Sathyam so she could learn how to dance. They decided to enroll her at Chennai’s Kesari High School to continue her dancing classes. In that school, she completed her ninth and tenth grades. In 1975, she made her dancing performance debut in Kadapa. Later, she performed on stage frequently in Tamil Nadu. Floods once occupied that space. Actors Akkineni Nageswara Rao and N. T. Rama Rao stopped to collect money for the flood-affected areas. She had never met them before. She later played the lead opposite N.T. Rama Rao in the movie Sri Krishna Satya.

Career

In Madras, she studied dance under Vempati China Satyam. Once, the filmmakers of the movie Nindu Hrudayalu visited their dance school and hired her to play a dance-savvy beggar. She had her first acting role at that point.

Personal Life

Amalanathan and Vijaya got married on January 27, 1985. He had held a position as a college correspondent. He went into business after retiring. Vijaya resides in Mahalingapuram, Chennai, with her family. Anushya, one of her daughters, married in 2013.
