Daniel Syrkin was born on March 4, 1971, in Moscow, Soviet Union, to a Jewish family. He is the son of Lev Syrkin and Mrs. Syrkin.

His father was Lev Syrkin, a Moscow-born artist who later moved to Israel and created mosaics, sculptures, prints, and other works inspired by Jewish and biblical subjects.

Between 1998 and 2000, he worked as a reporter on Good Evening with Guy Pines, interviewing international film personalities including Angelina Jolie, Nicolas Cage, Richard Gere, Harrison Ford, and Sophia Loren.

He moved increasingly into directing, making television dramas and documentaries such as Two Minutes from Paradis, Hallelujah, and The National Coach.

His feature-film breakthrough came in 2005 with Out of Sight (Lemarit Ayin), a drama about a blind mathematics student investigating her cousin’s death. Syrkin won the Ophir Award for Best Director, while the film also won the cinematography prize.

Daniel Syrkin later created and directed Ta Gordin, an Israeli espionage drama that became the basis for the American NBC series Allegiance. He directed Mossad 101, Little Monsters, Stockholm, and other productions before becoming a co-creator, director, and executive producer of the international espionage series Tehran.

His recent credits include directing episodes of the 2025 crime drama MobLand and serving as a story consultant on the 2026 historical drama Jerusalem ’67.
