David Soren, born on April 19, 1973, is 53 years old. He was born in Toronto, Ontario, and spent much of his childhood in Hamilton before returning to Toronto for high school.
Soren developed a passion for drawing and animation at an early age, and by the time he was eight, he had already decided that he wanted to pursue a career creating animated films.

David Soren began his animation career in Toronto, working as an animator and storyboard artist at Nelvana before joining DreamWorks Animation. At DreamWorks, he worked as a story artist on The Road to El Dorado, Chicken Run, Shrek, and Over the Hedge. He later became head of story on Shark Tale, where he also provided the voice of the shrimp character.
Soren moved into directing with the 2009 television special Merry Madagascar, which he also wrote. He followed it with Madly Madagascar in 2013 before making his feature directorial debut with Turbo that same year. Based on his original concept, Turbo became his first major feature as a director and writer.
In 2017, he directed Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, adapting Dav Pilkey’s popular children’s book series for the big screen. He later directed and co-wrote Under the Boardwalk, released in 2023, while continuing to work across animation, writing, voice acting, and story development.
After more than two decades associated with DreamWorks, he expanded his professional work through collaborations involving Paramount Animation, Annapurna, and Spin Master.
