Małgorzata Szumowska was born on February 26, 1973, in Kraków to journalist Maciej Szumowski and writer Dorota Terakowska.
She grew up alongside her half-sister Katarzyna T. Nowak and brother Wojciech Szumowski, a documentary filmmaker.
