Mudassar Khan was born on October 20, 1987, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He was born to Mr and Mrs Khan and belongs to an Indian ethnic background. He grew up alongside his sister Farheen Khan and one brother, Mubashir Khan.

Mudassar Khan began dancing at a young age, eventually turning his passion into a profession by teaching dance to children at Thakur Public School in Kandivali. He later established his own dance classes and formed the Dance Shooters troupe.
In 2009, Salman Khan saw the troupe perform during an event connected to Wanted and subsequently offered Mudassar opportunities to choreograph for major entertainment events. His first major Bollywood choreography came through Dabangg, establishing his professional film career.
Mudassar Khan subsequently choreographed popular dance numbers in Bodyguard, Ready, Dabangg 2, Jai Ho, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Mastizaade, Baadshaho, Mitron, Notebook, Radhe, and Antim: The Final Truth. He also became a mentor and judge on several seasons of Dance India Dance.
