Syed Naved Ahmed Jafri was born on December 31, 1969, in Mumbai, India, to veteran actor Jagdeep (Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jaffrey) and his wife Sughra Begum.
He comes from a large Bollywood family, with siblings including his famous brother, actor Jaaved Jaaferi, as well as Hussein Jaffry, Muskkaan Jaferi, Suraiya Jaffry, and Shakira Shafi.
Jaffrey completed his schooling at Saint Theresa’s High School in Mumbai and graduated from RD & SH National & SWA Science College, affiliated with the University of Mumbai. He is of Indian heritage, and he practices Islam.
Career
Naved Jaffrey began his career behind the scenes as a choreographer, working on the film Oh Darling Yeh Hai India (1995).
His breakthrough came in 1996 when he co-created Boogie Woogie alongside Ravi Behl, a dance competition series that became India’s first television dance reality show. Jaffrey not only directed the show but also co-hosted it alongside his brother Jaaved Jaaferi and Ravi Behl.
The series ran for 17 years across seven seasons, becoming one of the longest-running shows on Indian television. The show was produced under their banner R&N TV Productions.
Beyond Boogie Woogie, Jaffrey expanded his television career by directing reality shows such as Power Couple and Salaam Bacche.
He also appeared as a judge on Indian Dance Week Season 4 in 2017 and made guest appearances on shows including Comedy Circus Ke Mahabali and C.I.D. His recent film appearances include Salaam Bacche (2007) and The Miranda Brothers (2024).
