Scott Mosier was born on 5 March 1971 in Vancouver, Washington, United States, to Canadian father John Mosier and Mrs. Mosier. He has a sister named Kristin Mosier.
Due to his father’s work, the family moved frequently between Washington state and British Columbia, and he spent parts of his childhood in both the United States and Canada. He later attended Vancouver Film School, where he met future collaborator Kevin Smith. He holds dual American and Canadian citizenship and is of North American origin; his religion is Christianity.
Career
Scott Mosier began his professional career while studying at Vancouver Film School, where he and Kevin Smith collaborated on the student short Mae Day: The Crumbling of a Documentary. After Smith left school early, the two formed a lasting partnership.
Mosier produced, edited, and contributed to the budget of Smith‘s debut feature Clerks (1994), which became a landmark of independent cinema after its Sundance premiere and Miramax acquisition.
He continued as producer and frequent editor on Smith‘s subsequent View Askew films, including Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Jersey Girl (2004), Clerks II (2006), and Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008).
Mosier also served as co-executive producer on Good Will Hunting and appeared in numerous cameos across the View Askewniverse. Outside that collaboration he produced documentaries such as A Band Called Death and the short Salim Baba, which received an Academy Award nomination.
In animation Mosier wrote for Ultimate Spider-Man and co-wrote and produced Free Birds (2013). He made his feature directorial debut with Illumination’s The Grinch (2018), which became a major box-office success. He has also co-hosted the long-running podcast SModcast with Kevin Smith and continues to work in both independent and studio filmmaking.

Scott Mosier married Alex Hilebronner on 1 September 2006; the couple met on the set of Jersey Girl. Details about children have not been publicly disclosed.
