Daniel Barenboim was born on November 15, 1942, in Buenos Aires to professional piano teachers Enrique Barenboim and Aida Schuster.
He began piano lessons at age five and later continued exclusively under his father.

Career
Daniel Barenboim began as a touring pianist in the 1950s and transitioned to conducting in the 1960s, leading the English Chamber Orchestra.
He was music director of the Orchestre de Paris (1975–1989) and led the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1991–2006).
From 1992 until early 2023, he served as General Music Director of the Berlin State Opera.
In 1999, he co-founded the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra with Edward Said.
Despite a serious neurological diagnosis in late 2022, he continues to perform on a limited basis.
He remains Honorary Chief Conductor of the Staatskapelle Berlin for life and has led anniversary concerts for the Divan Orchestra in 2024 and 2025.
