Naomi Judd and Michael Ciminella had another daughter named Ashley before divorcing in 1972. Inspired by her mother’s love for country music, Wynonna learned to play guitar. The family moved to Nashville in 1979 to pursue musical careers.

There, Naomi legally changed her name to Naomi. Wynonna adopted her stage name from the song “(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66”, which references the town of Winona, Arizona.

In 1996, Wynonna and businessman Arch Kelley III had a son before getting married to Elijah. They later had a second child but divorced in 1998. Wynonna then married her former bodyguard, D. R. Roach, in 2003 but filed for divorce in 2007 after he was arrested for sexual assault of a child.
