Halid Bešlić was born on November 20, 1953, in the rural village of Knežina near Sokolac, in what was then socialist Yugoslavia.

He was raised by his parents, Mujo Bešlić, a military serviceman, and Behara Bešlić, in a modest family amid the Romanija mountains, where economic challenges shaped a close-knit household.

Career

Bešlić launched his professional career in 1979 with singles that led to his debut album Sijedi starac in 1981, quickly rising to fame across Yugoslavia with hits like Romanija and Neću, neću dijamante.

He released 18 albums over four decades, blending sevdah with pop-folk elements in works such as Pjesma samo o njoj (1982), Prvi poljubac (2003), and Romanija (2013).

During the 1992–1995 Bosnian War, he organized over 500 humanitarian concerts in Europe to aid refugees. He survived a severe 2009 car accident near Sarajevo, continuing to perform until health issues led to his death from liver complications on October 7, 2025, in Sarajevo.
