Jeremy Michael Jordan (born 20 November 1984), addressed simply as Jeremy Jordan, is a well-known American stage, television, and film actor, singer and dancer. He is most known for his roles in Broadway musicals such as Newsies and Bonnie & Clyde, as well as the TV series Supergirl.

Jeremy Jordan, who came from a broken family and was raised in low-income housing by his mother, began singing in his teens, remained engaged in his high school choir, and began acting as a high school student.

As a student, Ithaca College awarded him a Bachelor of Fine (BA) Arts in musical theatre. He appeared on Broadway in various productions, including Rock of Ages, Bonnie & Clyde, and Newsies. He received a Tony Award nomination for his performance as Jack Kelly in Newsies and a Grammy Award for Best Original Song.

Early Life & Education

Jeremy Michael Jordan was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, United States, on November 20, 1984. From his father’s side, he is of English, German, Welsh, and Scottish ancestry. 

He witnessed his parents’ split as a toddler, and following their divorce, he, his sister Jessica Jordan, and his brother Joey Jordan were raised in low-income housing by his Jewish mother, Debbie Stone.

Jeremy Jordan was a good student who did well in school. He was also a singer from a young age and was an active member of the chorus at Mary Carroll High School, where he graduated.

He became interested in performing at the age of 17 after being cast as The Mute in the musical The Fantasticks. Such zeal drove him to study acting at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, where Jeremy Jordan earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre in 2007.

Career

Jeremy Jordan played Joel in the short film Common Change in 2007. In the 2008 Hartford Theatreworks stage production of the comedy piece The Little Dog Laughed, he played Alex. It garnered him a nomination from the Connecticut Critics Circle.

In 2008, he also played Tom Sawyer in the musical Big River, which was produced at the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut by Goodspeed Musicals from September 26 to November 29 that year. Aside from on-stage appearances, Jeremy Jordan made a small-screen appearance as Doug Walshen in an episode named Streetwise of the American police procedural, legal, crime drama TV series Law & Order: SVU in 2008.

From March 17, 2009, through December 13, 2009, he played Swing in the Broadway version of the rock/jukebox musical Rock of Ages at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. He appeared as an alternate for Tony in the Broadway revival of West Side Story in 2009. He was involved with the Palace Theatre performance, which ran from December 16, 2009, through October 10, 2010. In June 2016, he reprised the role during the musical’s Hollywood Bowl performances.

Jeremy Jordan played Jason Dean (J.D) in Andy Fickman‘s rock musical Heathers: The Musical. It was performed as a concert at Joe’s Pub on September 13 and 14, 2010. He subsequently won one of his most prominent theatrical characterizations, Clyde Barrow, one of the two ill-fated lovers and outlaws from Frank Wildhorn and Don Black‘s musical Bonnie & Clyde.

Jeremy Jordan first appeared on stage with Laura Osnes, who played Bonnie Parker in Bonnie & Clyde, in the play’s 2010 pre-Broadway staging at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, Florida. The play began previews on November 12, 2010, and debuted on November 19, 2010. It had 8 previews and 36 regular performances until December 19 of that year. In New York City, he played Clyde Barrow again in the Broadway premiere of Bonnie & Clyde. The play had 33 previews at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre beginning November 4, 2011, and officially opened on December 1, 2011. It only ran for 36 performances before closing on December 30, 2011.

In 2012, he received the Theatre World Award for Outstanding Debut and a Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Performance for his depiction of Clyde Barrow. Meanwhile, he played the lead role of Jack Kelly in the stage adaptation of the 1992 American musical comedy-drama film Newsies at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey, from September 25, 2011, to October 16, 2011. The musical was brought to Broadway, where he played Jack again at the Nederlander Theatre from March 15, 2012, through September 4, 2012.

His excellent portrayal of Jack earned him multiple awards, including a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical in 2012. In 2013, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album for his work on the original cast album of Newsies.

He forayed into feature films, playing the starring character of Randy Garrity in the American musical comedy-drama Joyful Noise, which was released on January 13, 2012. The picture starred Queen Latifah, Courtney B. Vance, Keke Palmer, and Dolly Parton and was a commercial triumph.

In 2013, Jeremy Jordan starred as Jimmy Collins, a working-class man from Brooklyn, in the second season of the NBC musical drama television series Smash. In December 2013, he also appeared in the concert performance of Hit List, a fake musical created for Season 2 of Smash. Meanwhile, from November 13 to 17, 2013, he performed alongside Norm Lewis and Bernadette Peters in a concert titled A Bed and Breakfast.

From July 23, 2014, to September 28, 2014, he played J.M. Barrie (James Matthew Barrie) in the A.R.T Theatre production of Finding Neverland.

He played Jamie Wellerstein opposite Anna Kendrick in the American musical romantic comedy-drama film The Last 5 Years, which premiered in the Special Presentations section at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2014. The film, which was based on Jason Robert Brown‘s musical of the same name, was released in theatres on February 13, 2015, although it failed to create an impression at the box office.

Jeremy Jordan played Leo Frank in a concert production of the musical Parade, directed by Gary Griffin and accompanied by composer Jason Robert Brown. Laura Benanti played Lucille Frank. Manhattan Concert Productions presented it on February 16, 2015, in Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center.



In 2015, Jeremy Jordan was cast as Winslow Winn Schott, Jr. in the American superhero action-adventure television series Supergirl. The sitcom debuted on CBS on October 26, 2015, and has subsequently moved to The CW for its second season. The series, which is now in its third season, was renewed for a fourth season by The CW on April 2, 2018.
