Born on September 12, 1957, in Frankfurt, West Germany, to parents Hans J. Zimmer and Brigitte Zimmer, Hans Zimmer spent his early years in Königstein-Falkenstein.

Although he played the piano at home as a child, he only briefly took formal piano lessons due to his dislike for the discipline involved.
