Joseph Harry Fowler Connick Jr. was born on September 11, 1967, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Harry Connick Sr., a longtime Orleans Parish District Attorney, and Anita Frances Livingston, a lawyer and judge who died of ovarian cancer when he was 13.

He has an older sister, Suzanna Connick. Raised in the Lakeview neighborhood, his parents owned a record store that exposed him to music early on.
