Tom Kaulitz (born September 1, 1989) is a well-known German musician, guitarist, and filmmaker. He is best known for his work with the band Tokio Hotel, which he co-founded in 2001. He has also appeared in a number of films and television shows, both in Germany and the United States.

He was born in Leipzig, Germany, in 1989. He began playing guitar at nine and formed his first band, Devilish when he was sixteen. 

In 2001, Tom Kaulitz and his brother Bill Kaulitz founded the band Tokio Hotel. The band’s first album, Schrei, was a massive success in Germany and helped launch their career.

Early Life & Education

Tom Kaulitz Trumper was born on September 1st, 1989, in Leipzig, German Democratic Republic. He is the son of Jorg Kaulitz and Simone Kaulitz. 

When he was seven years old, his parents divorced. Her mother later remarried Gordon Trumper, a German-based musician, in 2009. In addition to being a musician, Gordon Trumper established the band Fatun.

Tom Kaulitz has a twin brother named Bill Kaulitz, who is a well-known voice actor, musician, and fashion designer. Bill Kaulitz, alongside his brother Tom Kaulitz, is also a guitarist for the Tokio Hotel music band.

Tom Kautlitz attended the Elector Joachim Friedrich High School in Wolmiesredt for his studies. However, he eventually quit going to school, and two years later, he finished the online prerequisites for a high school diploma.

Tom Kaulitz has been in an underground relationship with Heidi Klum before divorcing his wife, Ria Sommerfeld. Tom Kaulitz and Ria Sommerfeld married in 2015 but divorced in 2018.

Career

Tom Kaulitz picked up the guitar when he was seven years old. When he was nine, his stepfather gave him his first guitar. Additionally, his stepfather owns and operates Rock’s Cool, a music academy. 

At the age of 10, they created their own band with his twin brother and began performing live in Magdeburg, but they lacked a guitarist and a bassist. In 2001, the twin brother got to know the bassist Georg Listing and the drummer Gustav Schafer.

Eventually, they started a Devilish group, which later changed its name to Tokio Hotel. They subsequently signed with Interscope Records, a division of Universal Music Group, and released their debut album Schrei in 2005. 

Since then, the band has sold more than 10 million CDs globally. Currently, Tom Kaulitz plays the lead guitar for the Tokio Hotel group. He appeared in a 2010 Reebok sneaker commercial where he purchases almost ten pairs of shoes weekly. In 1994, he also appeared in the television movie Verruckt Nach dir.
