John Ancrum (born December 15 1984), more commonly referred to as Murda Mook, is an artist who is an American battle rapper and songwriter based out in Harlem, New York.

He is most well-known for his raunchy lyrics, which have earned him a hefty following of hardcore hip-hop lovers.

Even though he’s only been performing from 2002 on, Murda Mook has already earned an impression in the hip-hop scene and has performed in several freestyle competitions at American and European arenas.

Murda Mook was born in Harlem, New York, on December 15, 1984. He was raised in a tough neighbourhood and began rapping at a young age.

Career

Murda Mook began his career as a battle rapper, competing against well-known Harlem rappers like T-Rex and Loaded Lux. His breakthrough performance was against Jae Millz. Due to his influence on practically every member of the Ultimate Rap League, he is today regarded as a “living legend” in the world of battle rap. 

Murda Mook also made a brief appearance on MTV2’s Monday Night Fight Klub outside of S.M.A.C.K., where he competed against up-and-coming rappers including Verse, Cardi aka Deuce One, and most notably French Montana, who was then known as Young French.

Murda Mook joined Ruff Ryders in 2011. However, his music was never released because the record company went independent. Instead, in 2016 he renewed his contract with the Busta Rhymes Conglomerate record company.

Murda Mook established the Harlem-based rap group Dot Mob, including his cousin T-Rex, Murda Mook, and Dutch Brown, an A&R Louie Da 13th member. K-Shine and NymLo were also members.
