Early Life

Lindsey Erin Jordan, better known as Snail Mail, was born in Ellicott City, Maryland, on June 16, 1999. Her parents and siblings raised her. Yet, there are no details about her in the media. 

She began playing guitar at five and was drawn to punk culture as a teenager. Jordan saw Paramore live on the Riot! Tour when he was eight years old.

 She described the experience as a “huge moment” that motivated her to establish her band later. She sang in a church band and a jazz band at school.

Snail Mail’s Lindsey Jordan graduated from Mount Hebron High School in Ellicott City, Maryland, in 2017. At school, she was a member of the jazz band and the church band, and she began writing her songs when she was about 12 years old.

 Jordan was accepted to St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn after graduating from high school, but she chose not to go to focus on her music career.

Career

She debuted in 2015 with the release of her self-produced solo EP Sticki. She rose to prominence after releasing the EP Habit in 2016. Her debut studio album, Lush, was released to tremendous acclaim in 2018. Sweetheart, her second studio album, was released in 2021.

Jordan has performed widely as a solo artist and with her band throughout her career. She has played at major music festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Pitchfork. She has also worked with Phoebe Bridgers, Angel Olsen, and Courtney Barnett, among others.

She toured with Mac Demarco and Thundercat in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and the United States 2019. In June 2019, Snail Mail released a Simlish rendition of their song “Pristine” for the new EA game The Sims 4: Island Living. 

The next month, Matador Records reissued Habit digitally, which contained a cover of “The Second Most Beautiful Girl in the World” by the band Courtney Love, lead by American musician Lois Maffeo.

Valentine, Snail Mail’s second album, was released on November 5, 2021. The album gained considerable critical acclaim and was included on several year-end lists for 2021. Jordan said this about Valentine: “Creating this album has been the most difficult endeavor of my life thus far. I poured my heart and soul into every tiny detail.”
