Stoja Novaković was born on June 4, 1972, in the village of Perlez, Serbia. Raised in a musical family, she inherited her powerful voice from her father Milan, a former singer.

She showed early talent, performing at local events and school festivals. Stoja completed primary school in Perlez and secondary trade school in Zrenjanin.

Tragedy struck early: she married at 16, gave birth to son Milan at 17, and became a widow at 19 after her first husband died in a car accident in 1991.
