He suffered from severe amblyopia as a child, which almost made him lose sight of his right eye and affected his self-confidence.

His parents encouraged him to try sports to boost his morale, and he chose figure skating as his passion. He graduated from Pangok High School and attended Yong In University, majoring in Sociology and Physical Education.

Personal Life

Sunghoon is single and has not been involved in any public romantic relationship. He is focused on his career and personal growth as an artist.

He loves listening to hip-hop music, eating samgyupsal (grilled pork belly), and enjoying coffee-flavored ice cream. He is afraid of bugs and ghosts and habitually sticks out his tongue.

He also has a poodle puppy named Gaeul, whom he adores and cares for. He is close with his fellow Enhypen members, especially Jay and Jake, who were also born in 2002.

He is also friends with other idols, such as Wonyoung of Ive, with whom he co-hosts Music Bank.

Sunghoon started his career as a figure skater in 2010 and competed in various national and international events. He won silver medals at the 2013 novice and 2014 junior South Korean Figure Skating Championships competitions.

He also won gold medals at the 2015 novice competitions of the Asian Figure Skating Trophy and Lombardia Trophy and silver medals at the 2016 and 2017 junior competitions of the Asian Figure Skating Trophy.

He participated in the ISU Junior Grand Prix in Estonia and Poland and ISU Challenger Series events in the Asian Figure Skating Trophy and Alpen Trophy. He retired from the sport in early 2020 due to his desire to become an idol.

In 2018, Sunghoon became a trainee at Big Hit Music after being scouted during figure skating. He joined the survival show I-Land, produced by Mnet and Belift Lab, a joint venture between CJ E&M and Hybe Corporation, in 2020.

He impressed the viewers and the producers with his talent, charisma, and hard work and placed sixth among the seven finalists who formed the new boy group Enhypen.

He made his official debut with the group on November 30, 2020, with the album Border: Day One, which sold over 300,000 copies in the first week.

He has since released three more albums with the group: Border: Carnival, Dimension: Dilemma, and Sadame, the latter being their first full Japanese album.

He has also participated in various shows, such as EN-O’CLOCK, ENHYPEN&Hi, and EN-CONNECT, where he showcases his personality and skills.

In addition to his group activities, Sunghoon has also ventured into solo projects. He became the new host for Music Bank, a popular music program, in September 2021, alongside Wonyoung of Ive.

He also made a special appearance in Playlist’s web series Mimicus as himself in July 2022. He is also a musical disc jockey and performs under the stage name Roi in different countries, such as China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.

Net Worth

Sunghoon’s net worth is estimated to be around $3 million.

He earns income as a singer, host, DJ, and model. He also receives royalties from his album sales, streams, and concerts.

Sunghoon faced criticism from some malicious netizens who accused him of not bowing properly to other idols on Music Bank, where he serves as a host.

They compared him unfavourably to his co-host, Wonyoung, who was praised for her manners and etiquette.

Some fans defended Sunghoon, saying he was shy, nervous, or rushed by the production staff and bowed during the interviews and the ending.

They also pointed out that he bowed 90 degrees to Seventeen when they won first place on the show.
