Charley Crockett was born as Matthew Charles Crockett on March 24, 1984, in San Benito, Texas, United States, to Branton “Brant” Eddens Crockett and Jan Onda Applehans. He spent much of his childhood in South Texas before later moving to Dallas.
Growing up, he was exposed to country, blues, gospel, and Cajun music. Rather than following a conventional educational path, Charley Crockett devoted much of his youth to travelling and performing as a street musician across the United States, France, Spain, and Morocco.
