Early Life & Education

Herve Leclerc, now 66, was born in Nice, France, on June 18, 1957. He grew up in a family of motorsport enthusiasts, as his father Jean was a rally driver, and his uncle Lucien was a Formula One driver. Herve developed a passion for racing from a young age and started karting when he was 10.

He won several regional and national championships in karting and moved to single-seater racing in 1977. He joined the French Formula Renault championship and finished third in his debut season.

He then progressed to the European Formula 3 championship in 1979, where he raced for the Martini team. He scored two podiums and finished ninth in the standings.

He also debuted in the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year, driving a Rondeau M382 for the Welter Racing team. He retired from the race due to an engine failure.

He returned to Le Mans in 1984, driving a Porsche 956 for the Joest Racing team. He finished sixth overall and second in the C1 class alongside Klaus Ludwig and Henri Pescarolo.

In 1985, Leclerc joined the Lola team in Formula 3000, the successor of Formula 2. He had a difficult season, scoring only two points and ending up 18th in the standings. He raced in Le Mans again, driving a WM P85 for the Welter Racing team.

He retired from the race due to an accident. He had his best result in Le Mans in 1986 when he drove a Porsche 962C for the Brun Motorsport team. He finished fourth overall and third in the C1 class alongside Oscar Larrauri and Jesús Pareja.
