Stedman Graham was born on March 6, 1951, in Whitesboro, New Jersey, to Mary Jacobs Graham and Stedman Graham Sr. He is one of six children. Graham attended Middle Township High School, where he was actively involved in various extracurricular activities, including serving as drum major and freshman class treasurer, and excelled in basketball.  

His athletic prowess earned him recruitment offers from prestigious universities, but he chose to attend Hardin-Simmons University in Texas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in social work in 1974. He later obtained a master’s degree in education from Ball State University in 1979.

Stedman Graham was previously married to Glenda Graham, with whom he has a daughter named Wendy. From 1982 to 1985, he was in a relationship with news anchor Robin Robinson.

In 1986, Graham began a relationship with Oprah Winfrey after meeting at a charity event. The couple became engaged in 1992 but decided against getting married, instead choosing to maintain a “spiritual partnership” focused on mutual support and personal growth.
