Evelyn Wanjiru was born on 6 May 1989 in Nairobi, Kenya, to Crispin Kinyua and Helen Muhonja.

She is the fourth-born in a family of five and was raised in the Freehold Estate area of Nakuru.

From a young age she showed interest in music, singing in her local church at age nine and participating in school music festivals, drama, and choir.
