Early Life & Education

Spencer Matthews, now 35 years old, was born on 6 August 1988 in London, England.

He is the third son of landowner and entrepreneur David Matthews, from his second marriage, to Rhodesian-born artist Jane Spencer Parker.

He has an older half-sister, Nina, and two older brothers, James and Michael. Michael died at age 22 in 1999 while scaling Mount Everest.

The family-owned Caunton Manor, a 30-acre estate in Nottinghamshire, and Eden Rock in Saint Barthélemy are sometimes described as one of the “top 100 resorts in the world”.

  • In 2012, he was accused of cheating on his then-girlfriend Louise Thompson with another woman, who claimed that he had sex with her in a hotel room while Louise was sleeping in the next room. Spencer denied the allegations but later admitted to having cheated on Louise multiple times with different women.
  • In 2013, he was caught on camera snorting cocaine in a nightclub in London. He apologised for his actions and said that he was ashamed of himself. He also claimed that he had a drug problem and that he was seeking help.
  • In 2014, he was arrested in New York for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was fined $500 and had his license suspended for 90 days. He said he regretted his mistake and was grateful that no one was hurt.
  • In 2015, he was exposed as a member of an online dating site called Ashley Madison, which caters to married people looking for affairs.
