Meet Vijay Sethupathi’s Kids: Surya Sethupathi and Shreeja Sethupathi

Vijay Sethupathi, fondly called “Makkal Selvan” (the people’s treasure) by fans, is one of Tamil cinema’s most respected and versatile actors.

His full name is Vijaya Gurunatha Sethupathi, and he was born on January 16, 1978, in Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu, India, making him 48 years old. He is Tamil by ethnicity and was raised in a Hindu household. His father, Kalimuthu, worked as a civil engineer, and his mother, Saraswathi, was a homemaker.

He grew up with three siblings, including Jayashree, before the family moved to Chennai, where he attended MGR Higher Secondary School in Kodambakkam and Little Angels Mat Hr Sec School. He later earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dhanraj Baid Jain College in Chennai.

Before he found acting, Vijay Sethupathi worked as an accounts assistant and later moved to Dubai, UAE, as an accountant. It was there that he met Jessy Sethupathi, and the two dated before marrying in 2003 after his return to India.

Surya made his screen debut as a child actor, playing the younger version of his father’s character in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015). He went on to appear in Junga (2018) and later shared the screen with Vijay Sethupathi in Sindhubaadh (2019), where the father and son both played petty thieves.

In 2025, Surya stepped into his first lead role in the sports thriller Phoenix, playing an MMA fighter, marking his shift from child actor to leading man. He stands 5 feet 4 inches (163 cm) tall. Shreeja Sethupathi

Shreeja Sethupathi is Vijay Sethupathi’s second child and only daughter, and the younger sibling of Surya.

She was born in Chennai, though her exact birth date has not been publicly confirmed. Unlike her brother, Shreeja has largely stayed out of the public eye, with her family keeping her life private so she can pursue her education and interests away from media attention.

She has made one rare on-screen appearance, in the Tamil short film Mugizh, alongside her father and actress Regina Cassandra. To Vijay Sethupathi, Shreeja is his daughter and younger child, someone he and Jessie have chosen to raise largely away from the spotlight even as her brother’s acting career grows.
