Savannah Guthrie was born on December 27, 1971, in Melbourne, Australia, to parents Charles Guthrie, a mining engineer, and Nancy Guthrie. She has an older sister, Annie, and an older brother, Camron.
The family returned to the United States when she was two years old and settled in Tucson, Arizona, where she grew up. She graduated from Amphitheater High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism, cum laude, from the University of Arizona in 1993.
