Kamara’s father, Alimamy Kindo “Albert” Kamara, was originally from Sierra Leone. Kamara’s mother, Irene, occasionally had to ask neighbors for financial assistance to provide food for Kamara and his siblings due to his father’s gambling habits.

Kamara attended school in Middlesbrough and showed a talent for football from a young age. He joined the Royal Navy at 16, following in his father’s footsteps.

Despite missing out on a youth cup final for Middlesbrough Boys, Kamara went on to play for the Royal Navy’s football team. He was trained at HMS Raleigh at Torpoint and later transferred to HMS Vernon.

Career

Kamara’s football career began when he was spotted playing for the Navy by Portsmouth manager Ian St John. He signed his first professional contract with Portsmouth in November 1974.

Kamara played for several clubs, including Swindon Town, Brentford, Stoke City, Leeds United, Luton Town, Sheffield United, and Bradford City.

After playing, Kamara transitioned into a managerial role. He was appointed as the manager of Bradford City in November 1995 and led the team to promotion out of the Second Division via the play-offs in 1996.

He later managed Stoke City for a brief period in 1998.

Following his managerial career, Kamara became a well-known television personality. He joined Sky Sports as a football pundit and presenter, where he gained popularity for his entertaining and passionate style of analysis.

He has also appeared on television shows, such as “Ninja Warrior UK” and “The Great Sport Relief Bake Off.”
