Early Life and education
João Vicente de Castro is now 42 years old and was born on March 27, 1983, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is the son of Gilda Midani, a wardrobe stylist, and Tarso de Castro, a journalist who played a role in the founding of the satirical newspaper O Pasquim. His father died of complications from cirrhosis when João Vicente was about eight years old.
After his father’s death, João Vicente went to live partly with his godfather, the singer Caetano Veloso, and his wife Paula Lavigne, when he was around eight years old. His mother later married Maria Bethânia (sister of Caetano Veloso), further strengthening his connections to that extended family network.
During his youth, João Vicente’s home life was affected by the absence of his father and the demands of his mother’s work. He has recounted that he relied on emotional support from friends, relatives and his padrinho (godfather) during difficult times.
For his higher education, João Vicente studied advertising. He worked professionally in advertising at W/Brasil in São Paulo, before moving toward creative and performance roles. He also studied theater at Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras (CAL), in Rio de Janeiro, honing his acting skills.
Personal Life
João Vicente de Castro has had a few high-profile relationships:
He was married to actress Cléo Pires from 2010 to 2012 (though some sources say their relationship began earlier, around 2009).
He dated television personality Sabrina Sato between about 2013 and 2015. Other rumored relationships include Daniella Cicarelli, Alinne Moraes, Vitória Strada, etc. At the moment, he is single, with no confirmed spouse or children.
He has expressed a desire to build a more traditional family someday (he has said in interviews that having children and a “normal” family is a dream).
He also revealed in a recent interview that he is a podolatra (i.e. someone with a fetish or strong focus on feet) and claimed to have a photographic memory for that part of the body.
Career
After working in advertising, João Vicente transitioned into entertainment through writing, directing, and performance work. He served as an assistant director at Natasha Filmes and worked as a screenwriter on programs such as Caldeirão do Huck.
In 2012, he co-founded the humor channel Porta dos Fundos alongside Ian SBF, Fábio Porchat, Gregório Duvivier and Antônio Pedro Tabet. He played multiple characters and contributed both writing and performing to the channel’s success.
He made his television debut in the series A Mulher do Prefeito (The Mayor’s Wife) on Rede Globo. In 2015, he became one of the presenters of the GNT program Papo de Segunda.
In 2016, João Vicente signed a contract with Rede Globo and entered the cast of the telenovela Rock Story. In 2018, he landed his first protagonist role in the telenovela Espelho da Vida.
Beyond television, he has appeared in films and specials tied to Porta dos Fundos, such as Porta dos Fundos: Contrato Vitalício. He has also participated in theater and live improvisational performance productions (for example, Portátil).
