Early Life and Education
Kacy Catanzaro was born on January 14, 1990, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby Belleville with her parents, Andrew Catanzaro and Kathryn Catanzaro, and her two sisters, Cheryl and Jessica. She is of Italian descent and follows Christianity.

Kacy Catanzaro developed her athletic foundation as an NCAA Division I gymnast at Towson University. During her senior year in 2012, she was named ECAC Gymnast of the Year and NCAA Southeast Regional Gymnast of the Year, while helping Towson achieve a 20–5 season record. She also won ECAC titles on vault and uneven bars.
After finishing gymnastics, Catanzaro moved into obstacle-course competition and began working for Alpha Warrior, an obstacle-course training facility. Her defining breakthrough came on American Ninja Warrior. In 2014, she became the first woman to complete the qualifying course, including conquering the 14-foot Warped Wall. She then became the first woman to complete a City Finals course, earning a place in the national finals in Las Vegas. Her performance made her a worldwide viral sensation and earned her the nickname “Mighty Kacy.”
She competed on American Ninja Warrior for several seasons before announcing her retirement from the competition in 2017. That same year, she signed with WWE and trained at the WWE Performance Center. She eventually adopted the ring name Katana Chance, forming a highly successful tag team with Kayden Carter. Together, they won the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship in 2022 and the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in December 2023.
