Patrick Leonard Sajdak (born October 26, 1946) is a renowned American game show host and television personality.

He’s most known for hosting the American television game show, Wheel of Fortune, which he’s done since 1981.

He is also celebrated for being on the TV screen notable number of years and still counting.

Early Life

On October 26, 1946, Pat Sajak was born in Chicago, Illinois.

He was born American parents; Leonard Anthony Sajdak, and Joyce Backal.

He has two siblings, namely David Sajdak and William Backal.

He graduated from Farragut High School in 1964, where he was known as “Warm Apple Turnover,” according to a May 2017 game show episode.

He then went to Columbia College Chicago while working as a desk clerk at the Palmer House Hotel.

During the Vietnam War, he worked as a disc jockey for the American Forces Vietnam Network.

For 14 months, Pat Sajak aired the same Dawn Buster radio show as Adrian Cronauer, and he signed on with “Good Morning Vietnam!” as Cronauer did.

Career

Pat Sajak won a contest on the Richard Biondi Show, which was broadcast on WLS radio when he was a teenager. On the show, he was a guest teen DJ. Al Parker, his broadcasting instructor, told him that WEDC, a local radio station, was looking for a newsman while he was still in college. He applied for the position and was hired. He worked at the station from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Pat Sajak worked as a disc jockey in the US Army before entering the media profession. In 1968, he enlisted in the army and was stationed in Vietnam. During the Vietnam War, he worked at the American Forces Vietnam Network, where he hosted the radio show, Dawn Buster.

He signed in with the phrase Good Morning Vietnam! for 14 months, which was the same as Adrian Cronauer‘s. For one year in the early 1970s, the star worked as a disc jockey. After that, he worked for a Murray, Kentucky radio station.

During this time, he also began working as a DJ at WSM in Nashville. WSM was broadcasting pop music during the day at the time. Later, he worked at WSM-TV, WSM’s sister station. This was his very first television appearance.

The media personality, Pat Sajak began her career at WSM-TV as a voiceover artist. He hosted five-minute newscasts, made station identifications, and served as a weatherman substitute. He struck up a friendship with Dan Miller of WSM-TV.

KNBC-TV needed the weatherman in Los Angeles in 1977. The appropriate individuals noticed the media star and offered him the position. Following his acceptance of the job, he was promoted to full-time weatherman at the station. Next, Pat Sajak was offered the job of hosting Wheel of Fortune in 1981.

Regrettably, NBC’s then-CEO, Fred Silverman, turned him down. Merv Griffin, who was sympathetic to Pat Sajak‘s cause, put a hold on Pat getting the position. Later, he was offered the job.

Since 1983, he has hosted the show. He set the Guinness World Record for the Longest Career as a Game Show Host of the Same Show when he returned for the 36th season. Pat Sajak had been the game show presenter for 35 years and 198 days as of May 8, 2019. He’ll continue to host the show until 2022.



Personal Life

Pat Sajak is married to photographer, Lesly Brown-Sajak, with whom he has two children: Patrick Michael James Sajak (born September 22, 1990) and Margaret Marie Sajak (born January 5, 1995). The pair splits their time between Severna Park, Maryland, and Los Angeles, California.

He was previously married to Sherrill Sajak in 1979 but their marriage ended in 1986. There has been much search for his black wife and daughter but TheCityCeleb holds no idea of what triggered the search terms.

Pat Sajak joined the Golden Baseball League, an independent professional baseball league featuring teams in California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Alberta, British Columbia, and Baja California, as an investor in 2005. He also contributes to Young America’s Foundation, which funds conservative speakers on college campuses.
Pat Sajak became chairman of the Hillsdale College board of trustees in 2019 after serving as vice-chairman for 15 years.

On November 8, 2019, Pat Sajak underwent emergency intestinal surgery to remove a blockage. Vanna White, Pat Sajak‘s co-anchor, took over as host while he healed.
