In 2001, he won Survivor: Africa, becoming the sole survivor and earning the $1 million prize.
He used part of the winnings to co-found Grassroot Soccer, a nonprofit that uses soccer to educate and mobilize youth on HIV/AIDS, mental health, and other issues across multiple countries, reaching over 1.8 million young people.
He competed on Survivor: All-Stars and Survivor: Winners at War. Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma twice, he survived two bone marrow transplants, with his brother Lee as donor.
